Nathan DuVall

Professor Nathan DuVall is the Instructor of Trombone and Director of the Georgia Southern Jazz Ensemble. Prior to his joining the Gretsch School of Music he was on faculty at Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC and Benedict College in Columbia, SC. Nathan holds degrees from the University of Memphis and the University of Mississippi in Trombone Performance. His former teachers include Greg Luscombe, John Mueller, Tom Ashworth, Micah Everett, and Michael Wilkinson.

Nathan spent nearly 10 years as horn arranger and lead trombonist for Nick Black and Lucky 7 Brass Band, performing at numerous music festivals across the country including the W.C. Handy Blues Festival in Wheeling, WV and Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, TN. As a recording artist, Nathan can be heard on Nick Black’s albums “Summer and Spring” and “Deep Blue,” as well as the Memphis Repertory Orchestra’s “Dvorak + Tchaikovsky.” He has performed with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Jazz Orchestra, SC Philharmonic, Aiken Symphony, SC Jazz Masterworks, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and was feature soloist and Assistant Principal with the South Carolina Brass Band. Nathan has performed internationally at the Umbria Jazz, Jazz à Vienne, Jazz in Marciac, and Jazzaldia festivals.
